Therapy for Sexual Assault Survivors

Sexual assault doesn’t have to upend your story.

This wasn’t supposed to happen to you, and nobody taught you how to get through it.

You move through life knowing sexual assault exists, but you never expect it could happen to you. One minute, you were living your life, happy as could be. The next moment, everything you thought you knew was upended. It’s like time split in two: life before the assault, and life after, and ever since you’ve just been doing your best to survive in the after and hold onto a semblance of the life you once pictured.

Sexual assault is a trauma that feels like something cratered your life. And it’s true: nobody ever taught you how to get through this. I can’t tell you what your exact path will be, but I can tell you that there is a path.

You can reclaim your story.

Sexual assault doesn’t get to claim you.

Right now, life doesn’t feel like it’s completely yours anymore. Therapy can help shift that.

It is completely possible to feel calm and at ease again, to know you’re not to blame for this, and to learn to trust yourself again.

It is completely possible to go a full week, or month, or even longer, without having the assault on your mind all the time.

It is completely possible to go out and laugh again.

To rebuild the courage and confidence to put yourself out there and try to find love again.

To reconnect to life and joy and all the dreams you’ve always had before you.

It’s all completely possible.

What might therapy look like?

If the assault happened recently…

We’ll focus on stabilization, getting you through the initial stages of trauma healing, and helping you understand your natural responses to trauma. This often includes learning to befriend your nervous system again and beginning to make sense of the stories you’re telling yourself about what happened.

If the assault happened some time ago…

We’ll focus on helping you make sense of how this has shaped you, how it’s getting in your way, and how you can get unstuck. This often includes the chance for depthwork, exploring the unconscious patterns that have shaped you and helping you move closer to who you are and who you want to be.

If you’re trying to date or in a relationship…

I’ll help you move toward the connection and intimacy you are seeking, knowing you can trust yourself along the way. This often includes depthwork, too, focused on reconnecting with your sense of self-trust, building your confidence to act on what you need and want, and learning to listen to your inner wisdom to help guide your way.
